Tennis Leadership Course
Griffin Tennis Academy is working with the School Games Partnership, the Lawn Tennis Association and St Mary’s to provide a tennis leadership course. Upper IV girls were invited to take part and 18 girls chose to rise to the challenge. The course is a qualification to become a full Tennis Leader and is a superb stepping stone to the coaching pathway leading to the Level 1 Tennis Coaching qualification, as well as preparation for the Sports Leaders course we run in Lower V.
Completion of this course enables the Upper IV Tennis Leaders to help out during the Shaftesbury and District Primary School Year 3 & 4 competition on Thursday 23rd May and the North Dorset Finals on Wednesday 12th June. Both theses competitions will be held at St Mary’s.
Commenting on the course, Olivia T-T and Rosie H, said:
“On Tuesday and Wednesday this week UIV had the opportunity to take part in a fantastic tennis leadership course. On Tuesday the course was based on warm ups, activities and coaching for the tournament player including techniques we would use when teaching Year 3 and 4 children. On Wednesday we focused on refereeing the mini red tennis matches and took part in our own mini tournament, taking turns in scoring and playing. We all really enjoyed this experience and are excited to help in the tournaments coming up.”
