Swim Centre Management
St Mary’s Swim Centre is situated on the beautiful 55-acre estate of St Mary’s Shaftesbury school. It houses a 25 metre, 6 lane indoor swimming pool, situated in an immaculate, modern, bright facility with panoramic views of the grounds. It has a team of highly trained lifeguards who ensure swimmers are kept safe and that the facilities remain a high standard for members and visitors. The water temperature is a comfortable 28.5 to 29C. The centre has bright and spacious male and female changing rooms with secure storage for valuables. There is also an additional disabled changing facility and the pool is equipped with a hoist for disabled access into the water. The pool also has a comfortable viewing area for spectators.
The St Mary’s Membership scheme is available to anyone who wants to benefit from the centre’s excellent facilities on a regular basis. Membership provides access to swimming sessions 7 days a week, with a range of early morning, lunchtime and evening availability. Please click here for the current pool timetable (Updated: March 13, 2020).
For membership prices and terms and conditions, please see the application form here. Our members regularly tell us how much they enjoy swimming at St Mary’s, citing the friendly staff and clean facilities. During the Winter months our Tuesday evening members/public session is a Twilight Swim where the lights are turned down, candles are lit and it is a time to unwind with some relaxing music. At the end of your swim, a hot chocolate will be waiting for you!
Swimming lessons are available for pre-school children from 2½ to 4 years. The 30 minute lessons take place in the water in small classes with a qualified teacher. Parents are able to watch from the viewing area beside the poolside. Children are in the water with arm bands and woggles, and learn to swim through play and songs to keep it fun.
Mother and Babies
On Tuesday and Friday mornings there are relaxed and friendly drop-in sessions for mothers and babies up to 3-years-old. These lessons are structured and small with song time and nursery rhymes, followed by free play. With brightly coloured toys, floats, watering cans and small inflatables, it ensures that children can learn confidence in the water with their parents.
At the weekends there are allocated sessions for families to enjoy the pool. There are an assortment of floats, balls and toys to provide additional entertainment and allow children to have fun in the water. These take place on:
Saturday – 10am – midday
Sunday – 10.30am – 12.30pm
This is a low impact group exercise class which is suitable for all abilities, led by qualified Aqua Fit instructors. Benefits of exercising in the water include:

Aqua Fit sessions are friendly, fun and a great stress reliever, leaving you feeling energised and ready for the day.
