St Mary’s Welcomes New Families in its 75th Year
After a summer of highly successful exam results, some of the best the school has seen in years, St Mary’s has a lot to celebrate. This academic year marks the 75th Anniversary since the IBVM nuns bought Coombe House and its wonderful 50 acre estate in Shaftesbury and opened a girls’ boarding school.
This term the school welcomes a number of new staff, including Head of Sixth Form, Susie Cochrane-Dyet and Director of Music, Dr Andrew Passmore. On the first day of term, Headmistress, Mrs Maria Young, also welcomed many new families to St Mary’s who join from a variety of prep and primary schools, as well as from further afield. New girls and their parents (some who are alumnae) were invited into the school Chapel for an official welcome by Mrs Young and the Head Girl, Cassia T. Returning pupils took up their roles as guardian angels looking after new pupils, while parents enjoyed lunch and an opportunity to meet Tutors and Houseparents.
