Parents’ Day and Beaufoy Ball 2019
The sun shone on a perfect summer’s day and the beautifully manicured lawns of St Mary’s and its magnificent 50 acre estate was the perfect backdrop for a wonderful 2019 Parents’ Day. The Chapel was packed with parents, girls and staff, for a Mass that marked the end of a sensational year and the end of school for the Upper Sixth leavers. The uplifting service, led by Father Andrew (his last Mass at St Mary’s), was ably assisted by Sixth Formers and accompanied by the sensational voice of the Chapel Choir.
This year’s prizegiving guest speaker was alumna, Gina Melotte, a voiceover artist, who gave a wonderful speech, addressing the girls in particular and telling them not to worry about what they’re going to do with their lives, but to have faith in themselves and… breathe! Headmistress, Mrs Young, addressed the audience, giving a summary of the year as did the Chair of Governors, Victoria Younghusband, both of whom thanked staff and parents for their support, wished departing staff well and looked to the future and the school’s exciting outlook for 2020 and beyond.
After prizegiving, families enjoyed picnics together in the grounds, before heading off for their summer breaks. Meanwhile the Beaufoy Ball Committee, run by an dedicated team of parents, were quick to transform the marquee into a wonderful venue for a night of celebration for the Upper Sixth girls, their families, friends and staff. Dazzling guests with their fabulous and elegant evening wear, the girls enjoyed drinks on the Head’s Lawn, before heading into the marquee for a three course dinner, prepared by Taher and the talented St Mary’s catering team. After supper guests took to the dance floor, enjoyed the photobooth and were treated to a magnificent fireworks display to mark the end of their time at the School.
It was a wonderful day and a truly memorable evening – a perfect tribute to the Upper Sixth leavers and the end of the 2018/19 academic year.
