In an increasingly crowded marketplace, the top A Level grades will continue to allow our pupils to challenge successfully for the most competitive courses at the most prestigious universities and to access the best further training and careers. Year after year, outstanding A Level results ensure that the overwhelming majority of our pupils gain entry to their first-choice university. This is testament to the hard work and skill of pupils and teachers alike.
In 2019, the UVI achieved the best A Level results in four years, with 22% of girls achieving three or more A*/A grades and 43% of all grades awarded being A* or A. The most commonly awarded grade was an A. 14% of the girls were in receipt of Oxbridge offers and all have achieved or exceeded their grade requirements. Economics and Italian had an excellent year, achieving 100% A* grades. Other high-performing subjects, with 100% A*-B grades, include Chemistry, Chinese, History of Art, Photography, Psychology and Religious Studies. The Oxbridge offer-holders will take up their places to read English, Philosophy and Modern Languages in the autumn. Other subjects being studied include Neuroscience, Economics, History, Physics, Architecture, Graphic Design and Politics with International Relations, at universities including Durham, Edinburgh, Exeter, UCL, Warwick, Manchester and Birmingham.
Our objective at St Mary’s is for every girl to achieve results which reflect their hard work and ensure that all pupils achieve their potential. This is at the heart of our mission statement and ethos.
Each year, we are pleased to offer a large range of subjects:
- Classical Civilisation
- Drama and Theatre
- English Literature
- History of Art (Pre-U Qualification)
- Maths and Further Maths
- Religious Studies (Philosophy & Ethics)
- Physical Education
- Textile Design
Pupils at St Mary’s will typically take three full A Levels. In addition to this, girls are encouraged to consider taking an extra activity to complement academic studies, such as an Extended Project Qualification, Young Enterprise, or a fourth academic subject.
